“I Started Recording Songs In Primary School” – Singer/Producer, Selebobo Recounts Early Days, Signing For Iyanya, Career & More

Oku Udoka Chidozie, a.k.a  Selebobo’s recent unveiling by Iyanya and his Triple MG group came as no surprise to many who have been following the young man’s fledging career.  Born into a music and artiste family, the Fine Arts undergraduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, gained wide acclaim for his hit banger, Yoyo, a track he later remixed to greater effect featuring J. Martins.
Having produced several other artistes, including writing and producing Yemi Alade’s Johnny, Selebobo has now pitched his tent with the ever-growing Made Men Music Group, a label owned by super star Iyanya and partner/manager, Ubi Franklin.
Selebobo, in this interview with Enconium Weekly, revealed how he found his way to Triple MG, how his musical background helped shape his career and much more…

When did you move to Lagos?
I moved last year September. It’s not that I hadn’t been to Lagos, I always visited Lagos but I was not based here.  I only used to come to do some promo stuff and go back. I grew up in Enugu State and spent a long time there before I came to Lagos.

You were born into a music family, when did you decide to follow your dad’s footsteps?
Yes, my dad is a musician.  He had a studio even before I was born.  It’s something that has been there.  I was born into music.  I had no choice than following the steps of my father which is what I love doing and have passion for.

So, you had your father’s encouragement?
Yes, my parents encouraged me.  They are all in support, unlike some artistes that often tell stories of how their parents did not support their career.  Mine is different.  They are fully in support of my music and they’re always there for me.

When did you drop your first single?
Really, I can’t remember the year.  I think it should be after my secondary school.  That was my first official single but that’s not the first song I recorded.  The first song I recorded was in primary school, but I didn’t drop it.  Recording, for me is not today’s thing.  It’s something that I have been doing over the years.

How did you find your way to Triple MG?
We started developing a relationship from last year and there was this chemistry because I actually wanted to work with Iyanya so we started as a family, from there I saw myself being signed.

Which other artistes have you worked with?
I’ve worked with a number of artistes. I worked with Yemi Alade, I produced and wrote Johnny.  I’ve worked for Flavour as well.  Most people don’t know that I’m the one that produced Ada Ada for Flavour.  I’ve worked with 2Shotz too. In fact, I’ve done a lot of jobs with many artistes.  Some of them would be coming your way soon.

What do you feel you’re adding to your new group?
I feel this is just the beginning.  I believe that as a different artiste on my own, I come with my uniqueness.  Everybody in the Triple MG is unique.  Iyanya is on his own, he has his style, Emma has hers, Basci has his different approach and I’m different.  Me added to the group is like another talent added.  It’s like stepping up the game of the crew, making it tighter.  We’re a team that brings different stuff together.

How has the experience been since you joined Triple MG?
It’s been positive so far.  Joining the Triple MG crew has taught me a lot of things.  It showed me that teamwork can be possible. It showed me that there are many things to be achieved.  I’ll just say people should keep their ears to the ground, more things will come your way. I don’t want to sound boastful.

Do you feel pressured to beat what D’Tunes achieved with Iyanya?
I want to say I’m not in this industry for competition.  I respect D’Tunes, I respect other producers, Don Jazzy, Masterkraft, Del B all of them.  I love their works and I’m just here to do my work.  Music is universal and it has to do with sound.  You can’t be playing only one person’s song or only one person’s production.  You have to listen to other people.  I’m not under pressure at all.  My own is to do my work without looking at anybody. I don’t even think that’s why Triple MG signed me and that’s not why I agreed to be here. I’m just here to do the work.  I have passion for, that’s all.

So, who are your influences in the industry?
In the industry, I’ll say production wise, Don Jazzy.  I’ve been following him, I love his production.  I love what he does.  I think he’s a living legend and someone that I look up to. I also believe other producers and artistes also look up to him.  Then, I look up to my big brothers, P-Square.  I look up to them, the type of music they do is commercial stuff.  I’m also a big follower of Michael Jackson, rest in peace.  He’s a legend. I learnt his dance also.

But how do you manage attention from ladies with your good looks and fame?

Every artiste has the same pressure from ladies, it’s a normal thing.  You would have fans, most especially the female ones and I love them as well as they love me.  That’s what’s up.  I stay in my own safe zone.  I try as much as possible to stay out of trouble.

Popstar, Miley Cyrus Covers The Latest Edition Of Elle Magazine, Opens Up Early Days, Heartbreak, Sex, Feminism & More [PHOTOS]

Former "Hannah Montana" star, Miley Cyrus who built her fame with Disney's once-popular show, has gratitude for the House of Mouse, as she covers the may issue of Elle Magazine, the Popstar also reveals her early days, heartbreak, sex, feminism and more.

On being stronger than she used to be from Disney days…
"You know, I’m really thankful that I started on Disney," she tells Elle magazine. "I got the most intense training. There’s times where I wish I could have just started as a new artist, but the world has kind of allowed me to do that. I feel really lucky - a lot of kid stars get all crazy or stuck in what they were, so they can’t actually become what they’re meant to be."
On going through another separation: a breakup with former fiancé, Liam Hemsworth...
"When I was with him or when I was on Disney, the thing that gave me the most anxiety was not knowing what to do with myself when Disney wasn’t there to carry me anymore or if I didn’t have him," Cyrus says. "And now I’m free of both of those things, and I’m fine. Like, I lay in bed at night by myself and I’m totally okay, and that’s so much stronger than the person three years ago, who would have thought they would have died if they didn’t have a boyfriend."
On her connection with her fans and what gives her purpose
I have guys and girls that come out, and they're like, "The only reason I'm able to admit that I'm gay is because you've made me feel like that's okay." That is so intense, because that is a part of this generation, it wasn't always accepted and I feel like I am a big part of that change. Or they know that I've struggled with depression, and that helped them get over theirs. That gives me a big purpose, a reason to wake up in the morning that's bigger than to put on my fucking feathers and my little outfits.
On feminism and double standards…
I'm just about equality, period. It's not like, I'm a woman, women should be in charge! I just want there to be equality for everybody
I still don't think we're there 100 percent. I mean, guy rappers grab their crotch all fucking day and have hos around them, but no one talks about it. But if I grab my crotch and I have hot model bitches around me, I'm degrading women? I'm a woman, I should be able to have girls around me! But I'm part of the evolution of that. I hope.

Late Hollywood Actor, Paul Walker's Brothers Help Finish 'Fast & Furious 7' Action Scenes, CNN Reports

Paul Walker's brothers, Cody Walker and Caleb Walker are helping "fill in small gaps" in "Fast & Furious 7" action sequences not finished before the actor's death, producers said Tuesday. Walker died in a fiery car crash during a Thanksgiving break in filming last November, forcing a halt to production.
"We had to take time to grieve Paul, the brother we love and lost, and to figure out if we should move on with our film," producers wrote to fans in a Facebook post Tuesday.

The decision to resume filming was "the only choice," the note said. We believe our fans want that, and we believe Paul would want that, too." Walker's dramatic scenes were completed before his death but some action sequences were unfinished, they said.
"We have resumed shooting and now welcome Paul's brothers, Caleb and Cody, into our 'Fast' family," the post said. "Caleb and Cody are helping us complete some remaining action for their brother and fill in small gaps left in production. Having them on set has made us all feel that Paul is with us, too."
The movie was to have been released this summer, but Universal pushed it back to April 10, 2015.
"This film is the most important we've ever done together," the post said. "It will allow the character of Brian O'Conner to live on and let us celebrate Paul in his most defining role."
Walker's O'Conner character is a staple of the long-running and hugely profitable film franchise. Directed by James Wan, it also stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Jason Statham.

Investigators concluded in a report released in March that speed was to blame in Walker's death.
"Investigators determined the cause of the fatal solo-vehicle collision was unsafe speed for the roadway conditions," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Commander Mike Parker said.
The high-performance 2005 Porsche Carrera GT was going "between 80 and 93 mph at the time the car impacted a power pole and several trees," the final report said. The posted speed limit on the Santa Clarita, California, office park road was 45 mph.

“I Read Law To Satisfy My Parents” – Singer, Omawunmi Reveal Pains Of Motherhood, Music Career, Childhood Dreams & More

Singer, songwriter, actress, and multiple brand ambassador, Omawumi who rose to prominence as a contestant on Idols West Africa. She released her debut single “In the music”, and since then her career has been on a steady rise. Her debut album, “The Lasso of Truth” was a huge commercial success.  In this interview with ThisDay Live, Omawunmi  opens up on music, motherhood and more!

Music has always been my dream…
While growing up, music has always been my dream. But then, when I was still in school, I never saw it as a means of livelihood. Back then, music was not one of the career choices you could tell your parents because parents believed more in professional white collar jobs, and that was why I studied law.

Am happy with my debut album…
Really, I am quite happy with my last album “Lasso of Truth”. I am happy with the attention I am getting from it. I have a very strong fan base and really, I am enjoying every bit of the attention I am getting. Right now, I am moving on to the next level. I am trying to put my money where my mouth is. I’m making a live album soon, because I can’t keep saying I perform live and I don’t have a live album.

Lowest moment in life….
I’m generally a happy person and it’s very difficult for me to get to that point where I am very down, because most times I even feed off other people’s energy. So, I am a happy person. I make people happy and that’s what gives me the happy and content vibe that I have. It’s hard to find me on a low. The lowest point you can find me is when I am disappointed about people’s opinion regarding me. But it doesn’t really bother me to the extent where I need to correct the opinion especially if it’s not true.

My involvement with Agriculture and One.org
Well, I’m an artiste and by virtue of that, I stand as a spokesperson for the people through one of the most important tools which is music, and the organsers ‘one.org’ needed artistes that can appeal to the middle class and grassroots to encourage farming and all that it entails. And then, looking inwards into Nigeria, I must commend the Ministry of Agriculture, because a lot of people are not aware and in tune with the massive industry and economic value that agriculture brings to the country. But personally, I am aware because I’m a small time farmer, I have an acre of land in Warri where I produce crops and livestock and the growth is really impressive, because we make money off agriculture. So, now it’s my job to make people see farming as a cool job and a possible career path for the youth and make the government see a clearer picture as well.
Joggling motherhood, music and agriculture…
It’s a way of life for me. I just see it as what I need to do, and most times it doesn’t even feel like am doing anything. For instance, I do a lot more than these things you mentioned. I just started my own NGO called “Omawonder’s Little House of No Regrets” which empowers women and young girls.

My daughter is not missing out on anything….

I always told myself that when I start having kids, I’ll quit music and become a teacher. But it’s not happening, so the thing about it is that I am blessed with a large family because you can’t do it all alone. I have 13 siblings. So, everybody is involved in grooming my child and she’s not missing out on anything, because I always make sure I attend to her school work. I bath her and take her to school myself. It’s not stressful at all.

“I’d Rather Be Miserable Than Be In A Relationship” — Ghanaian Actress, Yvonne Okoro Opens Up On Life, Relationships, & More

Ghanaian sexy actress, Yvonne Okoro’s post on the Instagram last week placed a huge question mark on the state of mind of the actress. The declaration “ I would rather be lonely and miserable than be in a relationship” wouldn’t pass for any woman who is fulfilled as a woman, even though the career is on the up and up.
It wasn’t until further checks were run on what could have brought about that rather gloomy assertion that the whole scenario began to make sense. It turned out Yvonne’s post was an extract from a previous interview the talented actress granted on relationships.

“If you give me all the attention and make me laugh I think that’s it. I am not in a relationship, not because I don’t want to. Let me correct that, because you go somewhere and people say `oh, I am happy with just my job’ but the truth is nobody is happy being single. Again you hear `I don’t want to get married now’ I think it’s a lie.

“In my opinion, it’s because your master hasn’t come yet. My mother always says that once your master comes you don’t need anyone to tell you to go, you’ll go. I haven’t had my master yet but the truth of the matter is, because of what I do, I meet people.

“However, it’s so difficult for me to meet single people, it’s so difficult as well to trust people and that is the problem. At a point, you realize that they treated you like a trophy and showed you off because you are on television. The ideal relationship for me would be to hang out with my boyfriend and his friends, who won’t even care that I am an actress.

“At this age, I don’t see the point of dating someone and knowing deep down that it’s not going to go far. I would rather be lonely and miserable than be in a relationship and be happy for a short while; then walk away because I realized this is not the kind of man I want to be with.
I’d rather stay put until my master comes. But what if my master comes at a time I am with somebody, then what, I have to bounce him”.

Going by her post last week, it does appear, the actress hasn’t found her mister right yet and this must have bothered her enough to reach out and tell the world she is still single, willing and very much available.

Rapper, Chingy Reveals How A Transsexual Sabotaged His Music Career, Losing His Record Deal With Ludacris & More!

After dropping off of the map for a few years, St. Louis rapper, Chingy has resurfaced and he’s setting the record straight.
Back in 2010, a transsexual named Sidney Starr, who was looking for 15 minutes of fame, took to the media to say that she and Chingy had a secret homie-lover-friends undercover relationship, which set the hip hop world ablaze. Two years later, Sidney resurfaced to say that not only did she lie about her relationship with Chingy, but that he didn’t even know she was a transsexual when they met at a show in Chicago. Unfortunately, by then, the damage was done and Chingy’s career had already taken a hit.
In a recent interview with VladTV, Chingy speaks for the first time on the false accusations, and explains the aftermath, which included him losing a record deal and tons of bad publicity.
See the excerpts below:

On Meeting Sidney Starr
I remember that day we had that show when me and Ludacris had that show in Chicago. The promoter had some girl dancers on stage that were dressed in body paint just for promotion, promoting whatever he wanted them to promote. And one, who I thought was a young lady, came up to me that wanted a picture, I just took a picture. I thought she was a fan. I thought it was a young lady who was a fan. She seemed pretty cool. I took the picture and that was it.
Two years after that I see something come out of some bullcrap about this transsexual person was in a relationship with me. I was just like everybody else. I didn’t have a clue as to what this person was talking about. But what happened was, it made me not want to take pictures with people that….with a man that’s in touch with his feminine side a little too much, or a woman that’s in touch with her masculine side a little too much. It made me not want to take pictures with those type of individuals.
On being sabotaged & losing a record deal
Before I got in this business, I didn’t know anything about somebody trying to sabotage my career [and] my name. That was foreign to me. I thought, I ain’t did nothing to nobody. Why would they want to try something like that with me? So that was foreign to me, so when them people did that it was a shock, but I still was cool. I still was good, but everybody else was taking to it. It actually…it injured my career a little bit. I watched it happen. I lost a deal because of that. A record situation. I lost a deal over that.

How did you know it was over that?
Because it was said to me. ‘Cause it was so much bad publicity around that. It’s crazy. So crazy. It’s so crazy man. I’ve never been through a sabotaging situation like that, and it was so fabricated. False. And I watched people take to it and it was just crazy. I can’t even…it was beyond me.

On how he would react if he saw Sidney Starr today
First off, I’m a humble dude. I’m a forgiving dude. And that’s another thing…if people know anything about what Jesus spoke of in the Bible you know it was about love and forgiveness. So, I’m a forgiving dude. I would tell that person…which I’ve already told that person how I felt about it because that person contacted my people. I forgave them. I forgave the person because it ain’t no need for me to hold no grudge. It don’t mean that just because that person chose to be evil don’t mean that I gotta be evil right along with them. I’ma stay good-natured. Stay good-hearted. I would tell that person that was pretty messed up. That was foul. I [ended] up losing a lot for that. While they was trying to gain something that they still didn’t gain and trying to walk over people to get where you wanna get, that’s not the way to go. That ain’t it. Because a circle is 360 degrees. So what that tells me is what comes around, goes around.

I think Chingy should have definitely sued for defamation of character…its all good, I guess everything is in the past now.
