Mixed Reactions From Nigerians, As The President Visits Kano For A Political Rally Amidst The Bomb Blast Chaos [Photos]

According to reports from Sahara Reporters, Nigerians have reacted with outrage over President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to Kano to welcome former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, to the Peoples Democratic Party, a day after a car bomb killed dozens of Nigeria and injured several others in a suburb of Abuja.

The government said 75 people died while 124 others were injured although body count by witnesses and a Premium Times reporter suggest over 200 Nigerians were killed.
Insensitive, irresponsible, terrible, and wicked are some of the words that have been used to describe the president’s political visit to Kano.

“Let’s face it, is it even proper, as a father, for the president to be dancing at a rally and clinking glasses at a chief’s party just the day after?” said Betty Abah, journalist and activist. “What really would happen if he sends representatives while he pretends he’s meeting security chiefs? Even if he doesn’t care, is this even good for his image? What message is he sending out? He did same during the  Centenary celebrations. How do you explain this crass insensitivity?”
“It is plain insensitive, really. It an evident that the leadership of this country does not take our lives seriously at all,” said activist lawyer, Bamidele Aturu.
“He wouldn’t have lost anything if he had postponed the campaign for another one or two months and let the people who are bereaved come to terms with the gruesome reality,” For him to embark on that trip show clearly that for him politics is more important than the lives of Nigerians.”

“It is very insensitive and irresponsible,” said another lawyer, Festus Keyamo.
“That is a sign that the government does not value the lives of Nigerians. As a matter of fact it is confirmation that the present system actually enjoys the pogrom that is going on in that part of the country. It is very condemnable that the president could not even declare a day of national mourning after we have lost about 200 lives,” said Chairman of CACOL, Debo Adeniran.
“The president is not thoughtful; the president seems to be sadistic, enjoying the show of bloodletting. Our president doesn’t care. You know he said the other time that he doesn’t give a damn. He doesn’t give a damn whatever Nigerians say, he doesn’t give a damn about our feelings of agony, he doesn’t give a damn about those who are suffering the pains and pangs of the carnage going on in some parts of the country.”
The Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also chided the president for being insensitive to the lives lost in he blast.
“At a time when several innocent lives have been lost, when many of the victims are in hospital seeking blood donations to survive, the president is gallivanting around the country in the name of PDP unity rally”, he said during the matriculation ceremony of the Northwest University.

“I Grew Up In The Midst Of Thieves, And Football Was A Part Of Me” – Tha Suspect Reveals Humble Beginning, Career & More

Multitalented singer, producer and sound engineer, Tha Suspect a.k.a David Peters in an extensive chat recently with HipHop World Magazine, he opens up on his arduous childhood, his love for football, the bond he shares with maverick cinematographer, Clarence Peters and other illuminating revelations.

What was growing up like for Suspect?
Growing up wasn’t easy for me at all; I grew up in an environment where negativity was the norm. I was in one room with like thirteen to fifteen people; sometimes sef you go dey sleep, you go dey find where to put leg because if fit be person head. It wasn’t easy living in an environment where everybody was in your business. While growing up, we had dreams that we would make it out of the environment, not like we did not like what it does to us but you know, when you grow up in the midst of thieves, armed robbers, you know, at some point you might probably have to cover up for them; that’s not the life; today, this one is alive, tomorrow, the other one is dead and this are your guys.

You were orphaned at quite young age; did that complicate your life in anyway?
Was it really at a young age? I can’t remember how old I was then but I sha know say I don grow small when the thing happen. I was actually aware of my parents, it wasn’t easy for my dad because it was my mum that went first, it wasn’t easy for him because that was his woman now, she was the one that stood up for him all the while. It wasn’t easy and it made me learn that things would happen and you’d have to just move on with your life. Everything happens for a reason; if you no come life you no go know say death dey.

Do you think your parents would be proud of what you have become today?
Truthfully to an extent, I think my dad would be disappointed. Before he passed on, he saw me make music. He would have preferred me to get a real job, you know, basically do anything but music. When I was playing football, my dad and mum called me and where like you have to choose between football and school. Eventually when my mum passed on and pop c saw that it seems like ‘this boy is making music and he’s been doing engineering from a very young age, now I don’t know if I should actually tell him to actually go back to the football he was doing’ he now preferred the football I was doing, but there was no way, it was too late.
So how did music start?
Basically it was fun for me, you know, being in the school band, playing percussion, setting up drums with plastic containers and actually playing it to sound like you were listening to real drums. In my hood, people used to look at me and were like there’s one particular possession with this boy, we don’t understand this child, let’s just live him, he’s confused, he plays football very well but this particular one, we don’t understand, until I started going from place to place then in secondary school, I now did one radio jingle, then from there, I produced a song for one brick layer friend of mine which I wasn’t supposed to do anyway ‘cos he just took me along to the studio to have the experience but I ended up instructing the producer and jointly working with him on the song.  That was just it for me basically, it wasn’t actually music; it was more of football.

At which point did you actually decide that it is music and not football?
One day I got back home from training, I dropped my boot, I picked up my note book and I scribbled something down, like for lines, took one of those cassettes, pressed record, then I played back then I drummed to what I wrote down and I was like wow! After then, I never looked back, it was music all through.
You used to be in a group, The Praise Brothers, how was it being in this group and what were you guys up to back then?
It was an acapella group that could do all sorts, they were good, and they were like one of the best that time. We had album with Cabassa around 2001. All the other members of the group have left music now though, I think except the group leader who is in Spain now.

Considering the fact that you had your roots in gospel music, is there any possibility of you still recording a gospel album?
Of course, there’s every possibility

How long have you and Clarence Peters known each other?
I’ve known Clarence since he was a child, that’s my brother o, he is my blood, I’ve known Clarence o, he used to just eye me like ‘this guy sha, the way he plays football sha, he’ll just be embarrassing people up and down and later we now brought him into my group, Praise Brothers, then  later on we had issues, he ran off to SA, I stayed back to horn my craft and then when he came back, he was like, we need to work. We actually did some projects before he left. We signed some girls around 2003 or so. You know women now, you cannot put them together in one room and expect them to behave exactly the same way. They kept giving us issues; they ought to be the first artistes that we would have signed then. It was when he came back that we now started Capital Hill music.

Was Capital Hill solely involved in Music alone, considering that you were a music person and Clarence was more of a Cimatographer?
Asides music then, me and Clarence used to do sound tracks for movies. That was like the plan from day one. There’s a possibility we are still going to delve into that again some time, however, if we are, we are going do it proper, I mean, we will do a proper movie, we just wanted to set a standard, everything we want to do, its Capital, people always expect the best from us so we won’t just come and just shoot, it has to be ground breaking, that’s why we haven’t touched anything yet.

Speaking of your plans with nollywood, are we going to see you acting too or you are just going to be behind the scene?
I might be doing sound designing and still be a face in the project, just give me the script and ill dissect it. As a matter of fact, I have had some acting roles in the past, although that was very long ago.

What do you like most about your profession?
I want to start by saying that music is a swipe card, the fact that your face is out there is a swipe card, it can open door for you and sometimes a lot people let this get into their head.

An Ode To A Wonder Woman: Singer, Omawunmi Moves Into N100Million Lekki Mansion [Report]

Omawumi Megbele is now adjudged the highest paid female artiste in Nigeria. Evidences are all over the place at the moment, ranging from her proceeds from shows to mouth-watering endorsements, which qualified the Warri, Delta State born singer to be in the league of musicians that cruise in exotic cars and live in multi-million naira houses. The If you ask me, I’d say the crooner now smiles to the bank regularly.

Currently, she’s the only female music star with the highest number of endorsements, followed closely by another fantastic female singer, the vivacious Tiwa Savage. Omawumi is an ambassador of Glo, one of Nigeria telecommunications giants, and the endorsement is worth N25 million. She also also signed a multi-million deal with Guinness, as a face of Malta Guinness Africa. She was unveiled recently as Konga.com ambassador. The hard working singer is also the face of Mortein, where she participated in the malaria campaign across Africa.  She’s part of the Rise With The Energy of Africa and Project Alert Society.

Last week, the crooner was among the 19 African artistes invited for one.org agriculture campaign called Do Agric, It Pays, with one of the continent’s biggest musical collaborations ever, entitled, Cocoa Na Chocolate!
Unlike other artistes who go round boasting with their achievements, the gifted singer is humble. She has been described as silent achiever, who believes in the concept, Less Talk, More Action. Unknown to many, Omawumi moved into her own house at Lekki Phase 1, around Tantalizers area, Victoria Island, Lagos in January, 2014 and the edifice, Enconium Weekly gathered, gulped N100 million. During the period, the leading music star in Nigeria acquired a 2012 ML 350 Mercedes worth about N12.5 million.

All these have been made possible for her, because she has a good management team headed by the List Entertainment boss, Sunday Are. Surprisingly, Omawumi survived the already saturated and very competitive industry without a record label! Mr. Sunday Are, a guru and veteran in artiste management made it possible for the Omawumi brand to be celebrated across the world. This was also confirmed by the singer herself.
According to her, “I am really happy about the people around me. Big thanks to my father, like I call him, Mr. Sunday Are for setting up a fantastic management team, including my energetic band members. I thank God for making it possible because music is a form of enjoyment for me and I thank God that I can eat from what I enjoy doing.

“The industry has been good to me. If I must tell you the truth, apart from some bad belle people or head people, who are bent on bringing you down, they are there to make you strong. I have had opportunities of making good friends in the industry. They look up to me as their baby sister. So, the industry has been good to me and I feel very good.”

According To Food Experts, See Foods That Prevents Your Hair From Growing

Are you trying to grow your hair? See the foods that experts recommended to be consumed in a minimum or stop.
Sugar: For your hair’s sake, please step away from the sweets. Sugar can interfere with the absorption of protein and we all know how important protein is for your hair. Vitamin E is also essential for healthy hair growth and sugar can lower the level of vitamin E that needs to get to your strands! This doesn’t mean you have to cut out sugar altogether. It just means that you should reduce your intake.

Salt: Salt should be used in moderation because excess sodium has been shown to cause hair to shed excessively. Sodium should be limited to less than 2300 mg a day and even less if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, or are over the age of 51.

Bleached white flour: Starchy foods are broken down into sugar and can cause your hair to thin. If you eat starchy foods like bread, pastas, cakes, and other floury deliciousness, it’s time to consider consuming smaller amount, just for a while.

Soft drinks: One bottle of soft drinks contains an inordinate amount of processed sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, and chemical-filled colours that don’t provide any nutrients for your hair except completely dry out your hair.

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka Share His Thoughts On The Bus Staion Bombing In Abuja

Multiple award winning Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, yesterday in Osogbo, declared that the country was in need of competent leaders to confront, among others, the security challenges facing the country. He said the security challenges facing the country could not be solved by prayers, but by leaders with capacity to deal with the situation without partisanship.
Soyinka suggested that learning from the history of nations that had faced similar situations could help Nigeria survive her present security challenges.
Soyinka, who was a keynote speaker at a colloquium with the theme Fundamental Imperatives of Cohabitation, Faith and Secularism, organised by Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding, CBCIU, Osogbo, called for a frank talk among stakeholders in the affairs of the country to end the spate of bombings.
According to Soyinka, who said he received with shock the news of Nyanya Motor Park bombing, authorities concerned must arrest the situation.
Debunking a newspaper report, which quoted him as saying the nation’s security challenges could be resolved through prayers, Soyinka posited that Boko Haram insurgency should not be mistaken for a religious war, insisting that prayers alone could not end the crises.
He said: ”I have never said prayer can help resolve the security challenges facing Nigeria.
“I believe the situation must be tackled without partisanship and all these uninformed comments cannot help the situation.
“We should wake up to the reality. Nigeria is in war and only competence can solve the problem, not prayers.”

Karyn, who motivated thousands everyday through her blog, never shared her problems with her fans and readers, who were most shocked when news of her death hit headlines.
Ty Alexander wrote on his blog
"I wanna pout for a few minutes. I wanna bubble-snot cry. I wish someone had told Karyn Washington that she didn’t have to be strong. She didn’t have to hold the world’s glaring eyes on her shoulders. That asking for help was ok. No matter how you ask for it, it’s ok. People say all the time, You’re so strong! That’s so far from the truth. I AM WEAK!!! I think that’s what has gotten me through. I don’t judge myself for bursting into tears in the middle of a meeting. May her gentle soul rest in peace, Amen.

Touching Story: Rapper Drake Makes A Cancer Patient’s Wish Come True [PHOTOS]

Kennedy Brown, a 15-year-old terminally ill cancer patient, a native of Houston Texas has been battling brain cancer since she was diagnosed with the disease just two years ago, and when faced with fear that her time was running out, her classmates arranged for her to get the full high school experience by throwing her a surprise prom and crowning her prom queen. They also made sure the courageous young girl received an honorary diploma in a private graduation ceremony. But there was still one special wish Kennedy wanted to come true — meeting Drake.
Last week, a social media campaign was launched to get Drake’s attention with the hashtag #DrakeForKen.  One student wrote to Drake:
“Hi. I am a student at Carnegie Vanguard High School in Houston, Texas. A friend of mine has a serious case of terminal brain cancer that she has been battling for a year and a half now.  Just recently, she has gotten much worse.  On Monday, we will be celebrating her life, and because she is only a freshman, we will be giving her the entire high school experience in one day (prom, graduation, etc.)  She is your biggest fan, and it would mean so much to her if you could come meet her or at least send something.  We aren’t sure how much time she has left; she has been in hospice and is immobilized.  Please help! It would mean the world to her and all of us. Thank you #Drakeforken”
A day or so after the campaign was launched to get Drake’s attention, an update was given that he had gotten the message and was in the process of recording a message for her.
On Saturday, Drake flew out to Houston to meet Kennedy and she was smiling from ear to ear! The fact that this happened so quickly…how can you not love this guy?
